I was scrolling through Instagram this morning when I came across a photo posted by a friend of mine. It was a photo of her sailing through a river in a beautiful exotic location (probably Bali or somewhere similar), with #createyourreality #thepowerofnow written below.
The first emotion I felt was, "wow. this girl is amazing, she travels whenever and wherever she pleases. She is literally in a new place every other month!"
My second emotion, "damn, she is really living the perfect life. She can travel wherever and whenever she chooses. Why can't I?"
Now this friend of mine is a pure and radiant soul. She is empowering and inspiring in every aspect and I truly look up to her, even if she doesn't know it! But this isn't the first time I caught myself comparing my life to someone else's. But isn't that the dirty trick of Instagram that everyone tries to warn us about?! We constantly see the best side of someone's life, but we rarely ever see their struggles.
See, I know my friend here, she works so hard, and she has grown so much in her business and so quickly! So why would I have negative emotions towards her success?
Well, let's go back to my conflicting emotions. Notice how my first thought process was excited and positive, while my second thought process was the complete opposite. I found myself comparing my life to someone else's, I was beating myself up and feeling bad for "not being where I want to be".
This is how our subconscious works! We are so quick to judge ourselves based on one single photo of someone else's life. One single moment that took them months, maybe a year to accomplish! Our limiting beliefs make us think "well, I could NEVER achieve that or else I would have by now!". Our subconscious mind reverts back to those dark emotions of not feeling good enough. We're not good enough to experience a wonderful life full of adventure and financial freedom. We aren't good enough to have success; whether that stems from being brought up in a low income household or lack of confidence from our family and friends. Whatever it is, those beliefs are hard-wired into our subconscious mind and causes us to limit ourselves to all of the amazing opportunities this universe has to offer!
The moment I realized that I was falling back into that pattern with my limiting beliefs, I reminded myself of something very important:
"You are at a very different point in your life which cannot be compared to anyone else. Where someone else is in their life is where you will be, and where you are right now is where someone else is trying to get to. Trust the process and believe in yourself".
It's okay to feel inspired by someone else's achievements, but never allow your limiting beliefs make you feel less than, just because you haven't reached that point in your life yet.
The next time you catch yourself comparing your life to someone else's, take a step back and decide where you want your life to be, and how can you accomplish those same goals?
Is it a trip you want to go on? Than decide on the action you need to take in order to achieve that goal, and MANIFEST!
The universe is willing to provide you with anything you want. Including that trip to Bali.
Alright, so last week I said I would start weekly posting again on this blog. This isn't going to be structured by any means, but more so used as an outlet where I can connect with you guys about what is currently on my mind during my own journey. Maybe you can relate, or maybe you'll just find it interesting, either way I hope you enjoy!
So I was going to start this post by rambling on about my personal journey and what it took for me to get to this point so far. But four paragraphs in I thought "this may not be what people come here for". and so I hit the delete button.
I came on here to discuss what it takes waking up to your higher self, and although I'm no expert on the matter (quite the opposite actually), I am still recognizing new signs of improvement, understanding new information more and more everyday, that I want to start documenting it all and take you on this journey too in case any of you are also going through something similar, or just looking to find inspiration from someone who's also learning!
What is your higher self and how do you connect to it?
Well, from what I've learned so far, your higher self is an eternal, completely conscious version of one's self which is our connection to the divine source. We are all connected to our higher self, although some more consciously than others, and with that we are connected to the universe. This is how we can work with the universe and utilize the Law of Attraction in our everyday lives.
Connecting to our higher self means letting go of our ego. Replacing our negative emotions that set us on a low vibration with an abundance of love and compassion, which raises our vibration. Our higher self is there to help us and guide us. If you have questions, it will answer.
But how do you connect to it?...
With a lot of of practice, patience and understanding. It doesn't happen over night, and I have to admit I am still a long ways to go myself. But what you need to remember is, your higher self is always there. Whether you are in a "sleep" state or completely awake, we are all connected to the universe.
Connecting to your heart center is very important when you want to connect to your higher self. Some ways you can do this is through yoga and meditation, being out in nature and truly just doing things that you enjoy!
Finding hobbies that allow you to feel most yourself and you find when doing them you radiate happiness is key to connecting with yourself. The more you do what you love, the more "you" you start to feel.
If you are looking to wake up to your higher self, try implementing an hour or two out of your day to do things you enjoy. If you enjoy art, take some time to paint or sketch. Also take time to be outdoors, go for a walk or garden, and of course meditate! There are amazing guided meditations available, my favourite being one that I refer to regularly, by Aaron Doughty on Youtube.
In the end, connecting to your higher self is rewarding and yet so obtainable! Connecting to your higher self just requires you to connect with your physical self first.
When you feel pulled towards a certain path, or if your intuition is warning you of a person or situation, that is your higher self trying to guide you. The more you give in to your intuition or those synchronicities, the more connected and aware you become.
Trust in your spirit and your connection to the universe will strengthen.
Alright, so it's been a while and I feel like I have some apologizing to do.
As I sit here in my kitchen, making my morning coffee, after cleaning the house and doing whatever else I could possibly do to "fill my time", I started thinking about how I've actually failed myself.
If you've been following my Instagram @purposealchemy, you would have known that I was so excited for this new year! I had so much planned in terms of my new coaching program, I was constantly trying to motivate and spread the same light to others. I was (and still am) looking forward to my coaching journey.
BUT, I've fallen into that scary rut of anxiety and fear, fear of failing, fear of never achieving my dreams. That sounds so silly coming from a mindset and success coach.
I mean, isn't that exactly what I should have mastered by now? Isn't that what I am supposed to help others overcome? Does that make me a fraud?!
All of these things were constantly flowing through my mind and it caused me to have to take a step back. Which I both enjoyed and hated by the way.
Now, before you lose faith in me completely, hear me out.
I've learned so much from these past few weeks! I've learned that above all else, you have to listen to your mind and body equally. If your goals take a little longer to achieve, thrive in that moment. Trying to rush through the process will only burn you out faster.
I've learned I need to rely on others just a little bit. Keeping your failures and your success to yourself in fear of judgement won't do you any good. I strongly believe you need an outlet, someone you can share your process with.
When you're feeling down and out about a certain milestone you haven't been able to reach, they will help keep you on track and remind you just how fantastic you truly are! I was keeping everything to myself, and these past few weeks have been exceptionally difficult because of that! Because I didn't have a support system that I relied on, I didn't have someone to keep me on track. This was completely crazy! I basically had to slap myself back into reality to be honest because I have friends and I have people who love me, so why did I feel I NEEDED to venture this exciting and amazing new journey all alone??
Never feel as though you have to travel your path alone. Ever.
I know that I've completely ghosted from my blog, which isn't something I intended or wanted to do. I would come on here, pull up a new draft, try and think of what to write but somehow I just wasn't inspired at all. I had just revamped my website to suit my coaching, which is completely different from the lifestyle blogger I used to be. So anything that came to my mind either didn't fit or didn't inspire me enough to put onto "paper".
I felt defeated.
I didn't want to post content filler, I wanted to love what I was writing and I wanted to make sure it was something of value, something my readers would truly enjoy. But my mind was completely blank.
That later resulted in less social media posting. I went from posting on my Instagram 2-3 times a day to posting maybe 2-3 times a week. I wasn't posting original content, I wasn't letting my viewers into my life like I should have. Instead I was closing myself off of social media all together, slowly but surely. I couldn't possibly think about launching my coaching program that way!
Which then, of course, led to me putting off my program launch entirely.
What should have been launched between March 24 and April 1, is still waiting to go live.
Something I am so proud of and so in love with is still being kept away from the world all because I didn't feel "ready".
Last night my boyfriend said something so important. He said in order for everyone to believe in you, you need to believe in yourself first, and even if you don't have 100% confidence in yourself yet, just start. So I am.
Mindset shifting and manifestation is something I am so fascinated by and truly believe in. I am so beyond excited to jump back in and utilize my new energy in a way that helps others realize their true potential as well.
Thank you so much for being patient and understanding while I took this time off to regroup. I've come to understand even more that it's okay to throw yourself into something completely, but it's also very important to listen to your mind and your body to ensure you don't burn out. I was focusing all of my time and energy on this program. Every single day I sat in front of this computer and although that did allow me to create beautiful content that I can be proud of, I also didn't leave myself any time or energy for anything else. My mental health was reverting back to what it used to be, my relationship was also affected.
I was basically creating a program on how to lead others to a more fulfilling and successful life while I was experiencing my own struggles. I couldn't possibly keep going. I had to clear my mind, I had to take some personal time to meditate and reconnect with myself again so that I can keep providing genuine information to help my clients the best way possible.
So thank you.
So what's next?
Well, my program is just about ready, but I'm not going to be setting a specific launch date anytime soon, at least not until it's perfected. I have some catching up to do to say the least.
My coaching program is still coming, I could never imagine allowing all of that hard work to go to waste, which is something I was so afraid of happening over the last few weeks.
I think I have taken just the right amount of time away to jump back in full force, which is exactly what I will be doing.
Manifesting the Life I Want
My journey of overcoming depression and finding my purpose
As I sit here trying to find something to write about, the only thing that keeps popping up in my mind is how grateful I feel in this moment.
I'm grateful for the people who've entered my path, who've shown me insight on their lives and success stories, I'm grateful to have finally realized after so many years of failure and doubt that I am aware of what it is I'm meant to achieve and who I'm meant to become. I am also grateful for finding the courage to open up spiritually again after a period of neglect, and even more so finding a career style I can commit to that I'm not only excited about but as a way for me to incorporate my spiritual side as well!
I'm grateful for the life I'm given to have overcome a very dark point in my life only just under a year ago. And most of all, I'm grateful for having love in my life and someone who is just as spontaneous as I am, where we can plan things like leaving everything behind for the potential of living in a Van for a year while we travel Canada.
But it wasn't always like this
For 26 years I felt as though I've been living a life full of doubt, negativity and confusion. I never committed to anything because of those fears. I grew up in a household that was far from perfect. The support around me was minimal and only surfaced based, and my mind was always a complete fog. I had religion, I had dreams, but I also had fear.
All my life I called myself a "realist", living under the motto "Hope for the best, but expect the worst".
For 26 years I told myself this!! I was taught that the universe deals everyone a card and that's the card we are stuck with. It's what you do with that card that matters.
In elementary school I would get mediocre grades because I thought "too out of the box". I think very complex and tend to take the alternative route to solving a situation. I was also very introverted and shy. Having went to four different elementary schools by grade 3, I made absolutely no friends.
In high school my grades still sub-par. The bully I managed to attract before high school never grew tired of taunting me up until the year we graduated.
And because of my lack of self-confidence, I failed to commit to anything. I applied to many colleges and universities. Being turned down by my "first choice" and never completing anything afterwards lead to me feeling even worse about myself.
I met my boyfriend in college. He had just moved to Canada from Europe and we moved in together within two months of dating. He would tell me stories of his travels and his time in the military. He would ponder on what it was like to be financially free with no obligations and how he wanted to someday be a doctor.
The seven years we've been together, we've hit nothing but road blocks. Very rarely were we both able to work at the same time. Always one person depending on the other. We often found ourselves worrying about either not being able to pay rent or our bills, or paying off debt. At some point he moved away for work, and then I did the same. For seven years we struggled. For seven years I felt the guilt of being the reason WHY he never achieved his goals of becoming a doctor. I was the reason he no longer has that life of freedom. For seven years I felt as though my "bad luck" was destroying his life.
I started to think of myself as a burden
For years I took on the role of being the carrier of all things negative. I never once considered that maybe he was in complete control of his own life. I never considered that maybe his purpose in life was NOT what he had anticipated and that his journey is just beginning too! I never allowed myself to believe that I was a positive impact in his life, or mine for that matter.
I was allowing those negative thoughts to take complete control of my life, I allowed the negativity to reach externally into my space, into our space. I spiraled into a level of deep depression, convinced that the universe just hated me. Beating myself up trying to find the source of my bad luck.
But what I failed to realize was, not only was I being effected, but the one person I loved the most who was filled with light and positivity 6 years ago, is also being effected.
If you allow negativity to take over your mind and your space, you will ultimately destroy any connection with the people around you.
So I had to make a decision. Was I going to keep allowing the darkness to consume me until there was absolutely no way out? Because I was so close already.
Or was I going to finally find the healing I DESERVED and become the true light I was MEANT TO BE.
It's hard work, but it's so worth it!
My depression was actually a saving grace in a way.
(I know that sounds oddly strange considering I just went on a tangent about how awful it was!) But without hitting that low point in my life, I don't think I would have opened up to my spiritual path. I'm not talking religion, I'm talking higher vibration, higher self!
We all go through tough moments in life in order to awaken us, in order to direct us on the path we were meant to take.
When I began learning more and more about connecting with my higher self and cleansing my energy, something inside of me clicked. I no longer fear the unknown, I embrace it! Yea I get stressed once in a while but we are human and we are allowed to feel those emotions, just as long as we don't allow them to take over our subconscious.
I no longer live by "hope for the best, expect the worst". I changed my motto to
"everything in life happens for a reason".
I am more content in myself and my mind than I've ever been! I'm not saying everything is absolutely perfect now. It's always going to be a work in progress. But as long as you dedicate your life to pushing forward no matter what, you will become the person you desire to be!
So what am I grateful for?
As I said, during this recovery process, I came across some people who have opened my eyes to a beautiful new world! A way that I could do everything I love all at once!
Work from home, travel and do whatever it is I want to do. All while including my spiritual practice in my profession and best of all, HELPING others overcome their own fears and accomplish whatever it is they desire most!
I am also completely grateful for having someone as amazing as my boyfriend work through the worst points in my life alongside me and finally find something that makes us both so excited and inspired!
My point to this (very long) story is to NEVER give up on yourself!
Even the darkest moments in life are temporary, and it's ultimately up to you to change your course. Never settle for anything less than what you want most, and in order to attract positive results, you must put out positive energy!
I hope my story inspires some of you to take action in your own life!

Why I'm so Damn Proud to be a Millennial
Random Thoughts Archive
Alright so this thought kinda came out of the blue (as in I was sitting on the sofa, reviewing my emails and waiting for dinner to cook), when it dawned on me that I actually LOVE being a Millennial! HAHA yea I'm laughing at myself just typing that out. Millennial's don't necessarily have the best rep either! I mean we are considered Lazy, unmotivated and privileged to say the least. But ever since finding out that I fall smack dab in the middle of the millennial era (which is technically 1981-1996 who knew!) I've worn the title with pride!
And here's why:
Okay, so we were born into a time where internet and social connection EXPLODED. Yea most of us seem "unmotivated", but that's because along side this new world of global connection and networking, is an education and employment system that's completely failed us!
were taught to conform to the middle class, to settle for 9-5 work that's not even available when we finally finish 4+ years of overpriced education that we can't even afford, to be stuck living with debt until retirement. While the global entrepreneurial business structure is booming around us, where gen-z teens are now making money posting Mukbang videos on YouTube! (What a life to live by the way).
We millennial's were stuck in limbo between the old ways of our grandparents and the new digital age that hasn't been entirely accepted until just recently. No wonder millennial's come off as "unmotivated and lazy!" . We have these ideas that suit the new way of life but we are raised by tradition and old education.
We're not lazy, we're just lost.
So why am I so proud to call myself a millennial ?
Simply put, we (little to our knowledge) are the leading generation to a new world! We hold the power and the inspiration to achieve great things and become the entrepreneurs of our dreams! Remodelling the education system, having the freedom and the power to think what we want, be who we want , do what we want, and have a positive impact on this earth! But of course we need a big boost in the right direction first.
This year has taught me so much already (yes it's only been two months but hear me out!)
I've learned to focus my time and my energy towards objectives that satisfy my inner self. I've learned patience, determination and most of all, leadership.
These traits are in every one of us, we just need to stop being so negatively affected by our older generations (no offence), and stop feeling so ashamed by our "wild imagination".
You have no reason NOT to wake up in the morning and work towards greatness. You owe it to yourself!
So embrace your creative side, do what makes you the happiest and fulfill your own dreams. (That's truly how you're going to get out of that minimum wage job after all).
But I'm curious to know, are any of you millennial's? How do you feel about the stigma posed on us? And most importantly, what are you doing to better your life?? Let me know!

How I Finally Became the Boss of
Fresh Coat of Paint
In most circumstances it is completely okay for a tenant to paint their unit whatever they so choose (with strict guidelines set in place for when you move out).
A lot of the time you can get away with requesting a specific paint colour prior to your move in as well, but you may be asked to provide the paint out of your own pocket and the company or landlord's contractor will paint your unit for you. This is a win/win in my books - if you are looking to paint your unit, you're paying for paint either way, might as well have a professional do the dirty work for no extra cost!
When it comes to painting a rental, I highly recommend sticking with a lighter colour. Anything darker or more vibrant may just cause problems for you in the future. If you do decide to paint your unit, you will be asked to prime it back to a basic colour upon move out. The darker the wall, the more effort and money it takes to revert back to white.
Take a look at this photo! I love the colour choices for paint and the dark accent wall adds such a warm and inviting contrast which separates the dining area from the rest of the room.
If you do choose to go with a darker colour, you can always get away with an accent wall rather than the entire room.
Painting an entire room a dark colour will eliminate any light in the space, ultimately making the room feel smaller.
Many landlords are against the idea of using nails or screws in the walls, which really limits any decorating. But those issues no longer matter with command hooks! Instead of drilling into the wall, they attach by a sticky adhesive and leave no residue or marks after you take them down! These hooks can be found at any department store and range in price depending on the size you need.
Choose Closed Storage Units
As a Decorator, the first thing I consider is how much storage space is available in the home and what alternatives can be applied in order to maximize storage without making the room feel crowded?
I'm not saying steer clear of open storage completely! Open storage can make the room feel more inviting and comfortable as long as the open storage is organized!
* Tips for open space Decor Organization coming soon! So make sure to subscribe to my email list so you don't miss out!
My all time favourite closed storage units would have to be the closed shoe cabinets from IKEA (only $35.00!) and Buffet side tables from Structube where you can find beautiful styles for more affordable costs than many other furniture retail stores!
Floor to Ceiling Curtains
Rule of thumb: Hang your curtains about 10 inches above your window or approximately 2 inches below the ceiling (depending on how thick your ceiling trim is - than hang the curtain rod just below the trim). Your curtains should also reach the floor but ensuring they do not drag or pile too much at the end (a little piling is fine).
This will create the illusion of a higher ceiling and larger windows, giving your space a more luxurious feel.
For the Bathroom - Buy a tension rod and a set of lovely (white?) curtains to hang and hide that ugly tub and the bath tile from the 90's!
Domino provides the best guide to help you decide where you should hang your curtains and as you can see, the height makes such a difference!:
Opt for Wallpaper
You must also make sure the wallpaper you choose is safe for rentals and can be removed easily. Find wallpaper that is described to be "temporary" or "peel and stick". Using glue on wallpaper is not only unnecessarily messy, but the glue is used to extend the lifetime of the wallpaper which means that baby's probably not coming off for a while!
Minimal Design for Maximum Impact
In order to achieve a spacious atmosphere, you have to consider only adding the necessities. You don't need four chairs and a sofa, a coffee table, 4 end tables and a tv bench in a living room thats 280 sq ft. You also don't need that extra large sectional sofa either! (we made that mistake and I promise you, never again!)
I cannot get enough of IKEA sofas! They are easy to move from one space to another as they come apart, their covers are machine washable and can be easily replaced which is also a perfect way to change the look of your room for less (because buying a $100 cover is FAR CHEAPER than buying a brand new sofa! )
Overall, with the right pieces and the perfect amount of decorating, you can really transform any space into a dream home, even if that space is rented! But what do you need to keep in mind when you are stuck decorating a rental?? Read below!
Do's & Don'ts in Rental Renovation
But there are also guidelines and regulations set in place for renters in order to save money and time for the landlord when you do decide to move out.
Having worked in residential management I can bet there are some things you may not have been advised upon moving in that you should most certainly know prior to getting your hands dirty with paint (or whatever it is you're planning on doing to your space!)
Before we go any further, I am in no way speaking on behalf of all rental companies and the information I'm about to provide should be considered as reference only. Please consult your landlord or building management company prior to any upgrades to your unit!
This is mainly due to insurance purposes! Any damages due to changes with electrical fixtures could void the insurance and could also cause electrical fires. Even if you or someone you know are familiar with electrical work, it's never a good idea to make those changes without consulting your building first.
Depending on the light fixture, if it is possible to change the fixture shade or attachment without touching the wiring, make sure to store the original fixture for when you vacate
2. Do not drill holes into the wood ( cabinetry, trim, doors)
It is very expensive to change cabinetry and doors, so damaging them in anyway will result in a charge to your account in order to replace what's been damaged.
If you need to hang anything on your door or cabinetry (such as hooks or those super useful IKEA kitchen rails), consider the Command Hooks we discussed!
3. Do not paint any wood ( cabinetry, trim, doors)
This is exactly the same as number 2. Do not altar the look of wood in your unit in a way that cannot be changed back to it's original state or else you will be responsible for replacement.
Don't like the brown cabinetry in your kitchen or bathroom? consider contact paper, stick tile and new drawer pulls to create a more cohesive look! Brown cabinets are becoming a big hit and can look fantastic with the right accents!
4. Consult your landlord before drilling holes in your home.
I say this because some landlords do not allow drilling into the wall, as most buildings are built with plaster walls instead of drywall, which is far more difficult to maintain or repair. The building I live in right now actually doesn't allow any drilling or nails because of this issue. So it is always a good idea to confirm before hand as this may result in a charge to your account as well!
5. If you remove your kitchen cabinet doors, make sure to store them!
Do not toss anything that belongs in the unit! Removing cabinet doors in the kitchen is a popular alternative to create an open concept space but as mentioned before, replacing what's damaged or lost is also expensive so make sure to store those doors!
yes this sounds so obvious but you would be surprised! Although back splash is wonderful for keeping the kitchen looking clean and stylish, it's very rare to find a rental with back splash, and I don't understand why!
Try resorting to peel and stick back splash tile! It's affordable and the styles that you can find don't look as cheap as they used to!
7. Make sure to ask before painting your home.
Many landlords don't have any issue with a tenant painting their unit but just to be safe, it's best to find out any restrictions or regulations in terms of painting. You wouldn't want to go through all of that hard work to find out you have to paint it back again right away!
I'm sure there are others but these seem to be the most common do's and don'ts for rental living! If you are ever planning on altering your home what so ever and you are renting, it's always best to consult your landlord before hand. It saves you in the event of any potential damage charges.
